Methods. The method we use for teaching hearing-impaired
children is Signed Exact English. Every word is signed and spoken
concurrently.
In addition, we emphasize techniques that result in
complete, original English sentences from the students. The following
techniques are what make our methods unique:
1. All communication from the teacher to the child is signed and spoken
concurrently in complete English.
2. The teacher requires complete English communication from the child. In
most cases, concurrent speech and signing are required. We have developed
a technique called the "Again Technique" to aid the child in accomplishing
this.
3. We also use the "Again Technique" to develop the speech potential of
children.
4. We have developed and
written a sequenced curriculum of practical
sentence patterns which hearing-impaired children do not usually learn.
5. We provide a comprehensive academic program, as detailed in our book,
Teaching the Hearing-Impaired Through Total Communication. |
